Common Questions About NCOA

What is NCOA?
NCOA Stands for National Change Of Address which is a database through the USPS. This service allows businesses to process their mailing lists through this database and check it against anyone who has filed a change of address form in the last 18 months.

Why should we use NCOA
There are several reasons to use NCOA, however the biggest reason to use this service is cost. Did you know that it costs 8 times more to acquire a new customer base than to maintain a current one? Did you also know that the USPS requires that a change of address update occur on all discounted first class mailings every 6 months? NCOA is the most cost effectice way to do this.

How large is the NCOA database?
NCOA provides 60 million changes of address covering the most recent 18 months.

How do they know it is the correct address?
The change of address information is controlled by a strict name and address matching logic. All matches require a zip+4 code and an address. For name matching the requirements are as follows:

You may not check familes only on this database and only those that meet these requirments will be provided with the new address.
